I would just add that the C-47 (DC3) as Goonie Bird was known. Probably one of the best plane that ever produced. Some still fly today.
The PBY Catalina was of course as "cat". Those who painted black for night patrol submarines were considered "Black Cats" known.
I do not know a nickname, but the official name of the P-61 "Black Widow" was very good.
My favorite was the B-26 Martin Marauder. With short wings, which became known as the "Baltimore Whore" without visible means of support.
